Mint Hill sits on the east side of Mecklenburg County in the 28227 ZIP, where lots run large and most houses sit back under trees. The older stock along Lawyers Road, Idlewild Road and the streets around downtown at Matthews-Mint Hill Road is 1960s-80s brick ranch and split-level with painted wood trim, fascia, soffit and shutters. Subdivisions built from the late 1980s through the 1990s, like Farmwood and Ashe Plantation, went up with hardboard siding that is now at repaint age, and the honest scope there is carpentry with a paint finish; the 2000s streets are mostly vinyl and brick with painted trim, fascia and shutters.
