Painting bids differ mostly in what they leave out, so ours names walls, ceilings, trim, doors, closets or fascia and soffit line by line. If something is excluded, it says so. That way you can compare bids on the same work instead of guessing why one came in lower.

An exterior color change in an HOA neighborhood needs architectural review first, and that review commonly runs two to four weeks. Rain also pushes exterior crews, and a day lost on the job ahead of yours shifts yours by the same day. We tell you when it moves rather than letting you find out that morning.

Kitchen cabinets run about three to six days, because doors come off, get degreased and sprayed, and need cure time before hardware goes back on. Exterior timelines are driven by prep, not by paint. A vinyl or fiber cement house that needs a wash, fresh caulk and two coats moves quickly. A 1990s hardboard house with swollen, delaminating bottom edges needs carpentry first, and that repair volume is what stretches the schedule. The estimate gives you a day range and names the variable behind it.

Do I need to move out while you paint?

No. Most interior repaints happen with the family still living there. We work room by room or floor by floor, close off the active area, and leave you a bedroom, a bathroom and a path to the kitchen every night. During cabinet painting the doors and drawer fronts leave the room for several days, so plan on open shelves and a countertop you clear ahead of time. Low-VOC wall paints and water-based enamels keep odor low enough that staying put is comfortable in most cases.

How do you protect my furniture, floors and belongings?

We move furniture to the center of the room or out of it, cover it in plastic, and run drop cloths or rosin paper over the floor in the work area and along the path we walk. Switch plates, outlet covers and hardware come off instead of getting cut around. Masking uses three materials for three jobs: film for large surfaces, paper on floors, and tape only at the lines that need a hard edge. Pets and kids are fine with a little coordination. Tell us which doors have to stay shut and where the dog spends the day, and we keep that area sealed and our tools out of reach. We clean up at the end of each day rather than only at the end of the job, so the house stays livable overnight.

How many coats of paint do you apply, and why two?

Color changes need it most: going light over dark, or covering a saturated red or navy, sometimes takes a tinted primer plus two coats. If a wall still reads uneven after two coats, we keep coating it until the color is uniform.

Large sample boards viewed in the actual room beat a fan-deck chip every time, because a north-facing room and a south-facing room pull the same color in opposite directions. Exterior colors also have to work against your fixed roof, brick and stone, and inside an HOA's approved palette.

What happens if it rains, and when is the best time to paint an exterior in Charlotte?
